Meteorologist Jon Austerheim at the Meteorological Institute in Tromsø says that the first nine days of December have been colder than normal. But colder periods are not abnormal.
– December has clearly been abnormally cold. But it usually evens out. Had it been as cold as it has been a whole month, then it would have been even more abnormal. But a cold period of one week, it is common. And now the weather is milder, says Austerheim.
Increase
Thursday will stay in the same range as it is now, even cold temperature, varying cloud cover, slightly sour Balsfjord wind.
– Lately we have had some cold winds from Russia. Now a little milder air comes in from Europe – from the south. This will give a gradual increase in temperature towards and over the weekend.
In Tromsø, the temperature will go towards zero, but it can also stay around four to five degrees, all depending on the cloud cover.
– Yes, when it gets milder there can be slippery roads, but no precipitation is expected, and as long as it is minus degrees on the slopes, it does not have to be so bad this weekend, says Austerheim.
Smoother
Over the weekend, however, it gets worse. On Monday and Tuesday, the temperature can move above zero, and later in the week there will be rain.
– Then it can be slippery, yes.
There may be a gale-prone place in Troms next week. But the winds are southerly, so they do not have to be icy cold.
