Wearing school clothes in Faso Dan Fani: Implementation methods explained in Bobo

The Ministry of National Education, Literacy and the Promotion of National Languages(MENAPLN) organized, this Wednesday, August 30, 2023 in Bobo-Dioulasso, an exchange meeting on the wearing of school clothes in Faso dan Fani. The consultations took place in the amphitheater of the former ENEP.

Reflections on the wearing of school uniform in Faso Dan Fani officially began in December 2022. But it was on Wednesday August 9, 2023, in the Council of Ministers, that the government adopted a decree instituting the measure. This measure is part of the Burkinabè government’s vision of encouraging local production, processing and consumption.

Its implementation, according to Mamadou Diarra, Technical Advisor representing the Minister of National Education, Literacy and the Promotion of National Languages, responds to the spirit of change initiated by Burkina Faso. He also indicated that the measure “will be done in a progressive, flexible and non-binding manner over a period of four school years”. Thus, the pilot phase will begin at the start of the 2023-2024 school year with post-primary and secondary school students from the public and private sectors of the cities of Bobo-Dioulasso, Koudougou, Ouagadougou and Sabou.

The purpose of the meeting in Bobo-Dioulasso is to inform and sensitize the various actors involved on the methods of implementing the measure. “We came to give them the right information so that the implementation follows and that the measure leads to the generalization of the port school uniform in Faso Dan Fani “, further declared the representative of the minister.

This meeting was also an opportunity for the mission of the MENAPLN collect the opinions and suggestions of actors in the field. At the end of the presentation on the port of Faso Dan Fani, the participants, mostly heads of public and private establishments, promoters of establishments, teachers, parents of students, student representatives and craftsmen, recounted a string of concerns relating to the cost and quality of the fabric. On these questions, Mamadou Diarra ensures that the cost of the loincloths has been discussed at length with all the actors involved in the manufacture, in particular the chamber of trades and the FILSAH which holds the monopoly of the thread. “We were stumped by this question of cost, especially since the country is in a difficult context. It is for this reason that the government has adopted the flexible and non-binding nature of the implementation,” he pointed out.

However, he said that all the actors will work together to provide a good quality of loincloth and reduce its cost in the field. “Gradually, we will take stock of the implementation of the measure to take into account all the imperfections“argues Mr. Diarra. The actors are therefore invited to facilitate the implementation of the measure and to serve as a relay for its success. At this stage, the port of Faso Dan Fani is instituted every Monday, day of raising colors and the choice of patterns and colors left to the heads of establishments.
