Wearing a mask: trade, work, transport, hospital… when will we be able to remove it everywhere?

Since Monday February 28, new reductions have been made in France concerning health restrictions. From now on, wearing a mask is no longer compulsory in all places subject to the vaccination pass. But when can we reasonably think that it will no longer be compulsory anywhere?

For almost two years, we have become accustomed to wearing this little piece of fabric at work, at the supermarket, at the theater (when they were open), at the cinema, and even outdoors, when the gatherings of the population required it. But since Monday, the French have been breathing a little better: the mask, which was no longer compulsory outdoors, has become optional in all areas subject to the vaccination pass (with the exception of trains and planes).

Thereby, restaurants, bars, cinemas and theaters are now accessible without a mask. A relief that raises the question of other places still subject to this obligation. When will we be able to do without the mask in public transport, in long-distance transport, at our workplace, in hospitals or in shops?

Not before mid-March

According to Olivier Véran, who gave a lead on February 16, we can hope for a second wave of relief in mid-March: “Fifteen days after February 28, that brings us to mid-March, we could start seriously ask the question of wearing a mask indoors, for adults and children.

Sanitary conditions to be respected

“Mid-March corresponds to the crossroads of three parameters: hospitals in normal working order, a virus which circulates but very weakly and enough hindsight compared to February 28, date on which we will be able to remove the masks where there is the pass, in order to then be able to remove the mask indoors, and remove the vaccination pass with the possibility of keeping it in certain risk situations “later specified the minister, on February 17, during a trip to Nice.

For the Minister, an improvement in the situation in the hospital implies “a routine rhythm estimated between 1,000 and 2,000 Covid patients in intensive care“.
