History has a tendency to repeat itself at times. After attacks in a supermarket in Buffalo and an elementary school in Uvalde, a discussion about gun legislation has flared up again in the USA. Various tightening measures were recently passed in the House of Representatives with narrow majorities, including an increase in the minimum purchase age, comprehensive background checks and the closing of loopholes in the restriction of so-called “bump stocks”, which allow semi-automatic weapons to be fired similarly to automatic weapons. However, the initiative emanating from the Democrats is likely to fail in the Senate, also due to resistance in their own ranks.
