How 28 little words can change the face of a country forever. On December 15, 1791, during the Bill Of Rights, ten amendments to the Constitution of the United States are written and passed and one of them, the second amendment, will change the face of the country. This famous second amendment, 28 words long, recognizes the possibility for the American people to constitute a militia to contribute to the security of a free state but, above all, guarantees to every American citizen the right to possess arms.
Morality, in 2022, the USA is, by far, the country with the highest armament rate in the world, which is an estimate of the number of firearms per capita. In the USA, it is 88%. So, for 100 inhabitants, 88 have a firearm at home… It is on the basis of this observation that Canal+ Docs is offering, this Thursday evening, a documentary called United States, weapons of angerwhich tries to understand why, and in particular since the pandemic, Americans continue to arm themselves massively individually.
A country divided
Gun culture is a subject of tension in the USA, especially since numerous deadly shootings have broken out in several schools: Sandy Hook, Columbine, Virginia Tech… In the USA, we have to rely on the overpowered lobbying of the National Rifle Association (NRA), a non-profit association whose main activity is to protect the right to own and bear arms.
