Weapons agreement creates divisions: – China warns of “hypersonic cooperation”

The American newspaper Financial Times announced on Tuesday that the United States, Great Britain and Australia will enter into an arms cooperation.

The project has been named Aukus and involves a defense cooperation, where the countries will work together to develop hypersonic weapons.

The aim of the agreement is, among other things, to stem China’s rapid military build-up, reports NTB. A statement that has not gone unnoticed.

Shortly after the announcement, China responded.

Warns against “petrol on the fire”

Asked about cooperation, China’s UN ambassador, Zhang Jun, warned against “measures that could lead to a crisis”, citing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as an example.

“Anyone who does not want to see the Ukrainian crisis should refrain from doing things that could lead other parts of the world into a crisis like this,” Zang told reporters, according to Reuters.

The UN Ambassador added:

– As the Chinese saying goes: If you do not like it yourself, do not force it on others.

– Difficult to protect against

The Financial Times quoted three sources as saying that both US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison would announce the project together.

Tuesday night, the collaboration was confirmed.

– We committed ourselves today to initiating a new tripartite collaboration on hypersonic weapons and defense against hypersonic weapons, as well as systems for electronic warfare. We will also increase the sharing of information and expand cooperation on innovation in the field of defense, it is said in a joint statement.

In recent years, several countries have been testing and developing this type of hypersonic weapon, which can move faster than five times the speed of sound.

– The common denominator is that these are weapons that are difficult to protect against, says Halvor Kippe at the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment to Forskning.no.

Russia claims use

Dagbladet has previously written about the use of hypersonic weapons in the war against Ukraine.

Russia claimed in mid-March that they had launched a new type of hypersonic rocket and sent it to an ammunition depot in western Ukraine.

The information was not confirmed by independent sources at the time, but British intelligence has commented on it recently.

Russia claims that they have fired several hypersonic missiles at western Ukraine. If true, it’s probably the Kinzhal type, the British defense wrote Twitter 21. mars.
