14.11.2020 – SPORT4FINAL / Frank Zepp:
Handball EHF European League – first leg 3rd round: The HSG Blomberg-Lippe dominated the first half against hosts Thuringian HC. The team of head coach Steffen Birkner acted more safely in the cover network including the better goalkeeping performance and showed clearly structured, rehearsed plays over crossings and breakthroughs over the half positions in the attack. The guests also had advantages in the counter-attack.
The Thuringian HC came into the match better than Blomberg-Lippe, but then lost the thread and looked weak in defense, mainly in the first half of the half. No goalkeeping performance by Davidsen until then, hardly won duels and had to go into time-out (14th at 6: 9) Head coach Herbert Müller readjust. But the THC could not convince in the position attack either. The moves were carried out with insufficient passing speed and accuracy. The directional performance on the back center was extremely mediocre. In this respect, a well-deserved lead for Blomberg-Lippe during the break.
Until the middle of the second half, HSG Blomberg-Lippe dominated the match more clearly than in half 1 and until then it was a qualitative class difference at 17:25 (44th). The guests were in all respects superior to an excellent goalkeeper Melanie Veith (many free balls parried) as well as in attack with Marie Michalczik (both “Woman of the Match”). The Thuringian HC did not seem to be “in the game” mentally in this phase either. In addition to the weak point of defense in the whole game, the withdrawal behavior of the Müller team was not optimal.
In the final phase the acted Thuringian HC with the tactical 7: 6 attack, which at least reduced the gap a little. Blomberg-Lippe now failed one or the other time because of Davidsen in the THC goal. In the end, the Thuringian HC lost with 27:31 goals and go into the second leg next weekend with a heavy mortgage.
