PARIS (AP) — American Tom Weah was stretchered off with a neck brace in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Toulouse in the French league.
Weah was injured near the end of added time after colliding with Toulouse midfielder Vincent Sierro while fighting for a ball in the air.
Weah was to be part of the teams that will play the CONCACAF Nations League matches against Granada and El Salvador.
It is unclear if the winger will be able to join the squad during the international break this month, although Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier told his team’s website that his teammate was “fine” and celebrated the victory.
Alexsandro Ribeiro opened the scoring six minutes from time and Lille moved up to fifth in the standings.
The Brazilian defender scored his third goal in 12 games this season. Substitute Mohamed Bayo extended the lead in added time.
Lille overcame Rennes and placed seven units behind Marseille, which is second and travels to face Reims on Sunday. Leaders Paris Saint-Germain have a comfortable 10-point lead before hosting Rennes on Sunday.
The game in the southwest of France was stopped after 27 minutes of the game due to unusual hail. After a 10-minute interruption, the players returned from the locker room in the heavy rain and the duel continued.
