85% of the patents in the field of plant breeding and animal breeding belong to the academy
Agricultural Academy (SSA) notes today The holiday of agricultural science with the traditional exhibition “Gifts of Nature” presented by the research institutes and stations of the academy.
The chairperson of the SCA, Prof. Dr. Violeta Bojanova, announced that 85% of all certificates issued by the Patent Office for varieties of plants and breeds of animals are the property of the academy, BTA cites.
The expertise of the scientists also supports the development of analyzes and policies in the field of agriculture based on scientific data. The dialogue between scientists and farmers’ organizations is becoming more and more active.
In her speech, the vice-president of the SAA, Prof. Dr. Iliana Nacheva, informed that the activities of the SAA are financed by a budget subsidy, which represents about 73 percent of the necessary funds, and for this year it is almost BGN 63 million. The funds raised from the sale of production and intellectual property are 26.88 percent, and they also include revenues from competition projects and programs, as well as payment for services provided to the business.
477 research teams are working on 109 projects financed with funds from the budget subsidy in the field of crop production, sustainable management of resources and rural areas, animal husbandry, fisheries and aquaculture, food safety and quality. 37 projects are financed by international competition programs, 71 are developed by the SSA teams under the competition programs of the “Scientific Research” fund.
Nacheva announced that the Fourth International Congress on Green Biotechnologies, organized by SSA, under the auspices of the Minister of Agriculture and Food, is about to be held.
She concluded with the draft of a strategy for scientific research, applied science, innovative and innovative activity in the SSA for the period 2024-2030 prepared in the last year. “This strategy outlines the medium-term plan for systematic actions in the field of agrarian science for this period,” said Nacheva, specifying that its discussion and adoption will take place by the end of next month.
