Even if many years pass, centuries perhaps, Queen’s music will still be relevant, possibly converted into a classic, it is already, to a certain extent, revered, listened to, hummed. What is quality has no expiration date, and it is as if it were happening now.
That’s what the writers of We Will Rock You, (Ben Elton and his Spanish versionist, Javier Navares) They take us to a future where, supposedly, music and other arts have lost their position and only a few bohemians, persecuted, hidden, seek to find what fueled so many passions. However, that cannot happen, because there are certain musics and compositions, groups and talents, that it is impossible not to take root and penetrate the new generations as well. Not even a dictatorial state would achieve it. Nobody can put an end to music, or theater, or dance, or painting, or even literature.
It is true that they serve us a story of forgetful memory and it is the excuse to go through the songs of the now legendary group, Queenin which we delight in its good execution and where the spectacle becomes essential.
One, all, the capacity of the Príncipe Pío theater full, we remember each beat, the warmth of the voice of Freddy Mercury along with the ineffable Brian May, Roger Taylor y John Deacon. But, apart from nostalgia, which is undoubtedly, we feel positive energy, we wake up again in the light of those concerts and albums, we light the spark of memory.
The story develops, but what we really want is to listen to the songs, sing along to them, and for them to make us clap our hands with We Will Rock You. Brian May, Roger Taylor and Mike Dixon themselves have supervised the quality of the performances of this musical, which is now in its third season.
Pablo Navarro musically directs what happens, and at the stage level we notice the hand of Gabriel Olivares and Alejandra Ortíz-Echagüe. The choreography depends on Teresa Jimenezbut the final responsibility for everything lies with Javier Amaro through a future that is a memory, a return to the past, a living fire, fallen tree leaves to evoke the kisses on the mouth of an always between before, today and tomorrow.
Queen in our essenceno one can turn them into fossils, nor do I think there is anyone who intends to.
The viewer is left with an overflowing feeling, the deep human feeling that we carry inside, that is why we ignore dystopian societies or musical deaths, of chips implanted in the brain, of planets of the apes that will never happen due to our vital existentialism, because We are lyrical beings, because we all have a poet within us, because collectively we are also capable of making common cause against tyrannies, censorship, repression, individualism.
With this musical we extract the value, the strength, the beauty of words and music, the fruit of our relationships, freedom of expression, without restrictions.
