We will not give up the fight against corruption – 2024-08-13 13:26:51

/ world today news/ “BSP is alone in the fight against corruption. It takes courage to fight this battle, but we will not give up.” Dragomir Stoynev, the Deputy Chairman of the PG of “BSP for Bulgaria”, stated this to the BNR. He explained that the problem of corruption already affects our national security.

According to him, the BSP has made its proposals and it has become clear that it is a completely independent body, such as it proposes, that can lead to a real result in the fight against corruption.

“GERB totally opposed this proposal of ours. VOLYA will probably also be against it,” Stoynev stated and recalled that VOLYA helped to override the President’s veto of the Law on Defense and Armed Forces. According to him, this is how the coalition that was formed became clear.

“Whoever and whatever he proposes, given that Justice Minister Tsacheva also stated that corruption is not always a crime, there is nothing to talk about,” said the socialist.

Stoynev stated that if the GERB bill is adopted, a body will be created that will not have investigative functions and will not accomplish anything. “There is nothing wrong with creating one body, even if it has parallel functions. The important thing is who will manage this body and that it should not be controlled by those in power, because corruption is where the power is,” explained the vice-chairman of the PG of the Left.

He emphasized that according to the BSP – the head of this body should be appointed by the head of state – the presidential institution should be independent and no matter which party nominated the president, it should be equally distant from the government. “Apparently, this is not the understanding of the rulers and part of the opposition in the National Assembly,” he commented.

Stoynev was adamant that the BSP will continue to insist on a real fight against corruption, despite the fact that for several days this has been a crime for those in power.

“When you want to show a corrupt deal and from the next day it becomes an element of national security, it only shows what the goals of the rulers are. Maybe that’s how they want the future body to work,” said the socialist. He clarified that it is about the scandalous case with the fence along our border with Turkey. In his words, when Air Force journalists say that corrupt representatives of the Bulgarian authorities are helping migrants to cross the border; when Elena Yoncheva for days collects footage and documents about the corruption of officials and films in real time the passage of organized groups of migrants; when the opposition wants to explain why a fence was supposed to be double-lined, but suddenly became single-lined, and with BGN 200 million spent on it – of course there are corrupt practices.

“We are currently being told that this is a matter of national security and no journalist is allowed to broadcast this film and show a picture. What exactly will the body proposed by the ruling party do in an important case like this?” he asked. As part of the BSP’s fight against corruption, Stoynev also pointed to the invitation of BSP leader Kornelia Ninova to the leaders of the parliamentary parties to send a joint letter to the Specialized Criminal court with a request to disclose the names of the politicians involved in the KTB case. “Borisov has already signed. We hope other leaders will sign on. If the names are made public, the competent authorities should report themselves,” concluded Dragomir Stoynev.
