“We will not ask for anything” – Russian Foreign Ministry on economic cooperation with Germany

Russia will not ask Germany to resume economic relations. This was stated by the Russian Foreign Ministry, commenting on the statement by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on Olaf Scholz’s statement at a solemn event marking the 70th anniversary of the Eastern Committee of German Economic Affairs. The chancellor believes that after the end of the special operation in Ukraine, Russia “will ask for the resumption of economic relations with Germany”. At the same time, according to Scholz, Europe should return to a “peaceful order in relations with Russia”, but only if Vladimir Putin “refuse aggression against neighbors”.

“But we won’t ask for anything, and German politicians must understand this once and for all. Let Olaf Scholz himself be responsible for the “tightening of the belt” of affairs to the detriment of his interests, “ – TASS quotes an anonymous source in the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The ministry stressed that it was precisely the reckless policy of the FRG that led to the breakdown of Russian-German economic and energy cooperation, which for decades ensured the growth of German industry.

EADaily adds that the Eastern Committee of the German Economy was founded in 1952 to develop regional trade cooperation with the Soviet Union. Today the committee has about 350 companies. The statute of the organization says something that the Germans themselves, at the behest of, unanimously rejected:

“In close cooperation with the governments of partner countries and Germany, we are working to remove trade barriers and improve the economic framework conditions in the region.”
