On December 23, the first liberal mayor elected by popular vote in Yaguará will be taking office: at 42 years old, lawyer Lenin Alberto Trujillo González will take over the reins of this municipality, which he envisions in the long term as a tourist hub in the south of the country. . Of the 9 councilors, 6 are from the government (3 from the Liberal party, 1 from Cambio Radical, 1 from La U and 1 from Fuerza Ciudadana). In dialogue with LA NACIÓN, the elected president spoke about how he will build in the midst of difference and his detractors.

Mayor, tell us how you take on the challenge at the head of the municipal administration.

We have many bets and one of the most important is to advance tourism, position Yaguará as a tourist center in Huila, we have riches that have not been exploited today, places that have magic and that is why the objective is to organize and promote them.

What will be those products that you will focus on?

One is the Betania dam, which has ‘The Cave of Love’ and, in addition, is a mirror of water that we must take advantage of. In the same way we have the Loma de San Pedro, it is located just two kilometers from the urban center, from where we can see a panoramic view of Yaguará and other municipalities, so we can turn it into a viewpoint. In addition, we have spas and puddles in the middle of nature, such as the Cueva del Tigre, the Charco del Polvo, among others that are almost unknown even to the inhabitants of the sector.

The municipality is also very well known for quesillo, do you have any bets on that?

Yes of course. First we want to make a special day, not as it has been done within the framework of the Royal Holidays. The objective is to organize a weekend where we focus on cheese, because it is practically ours, hold a cultural festival around it, and complete the process with the Guinness Record Office to aim to position this food as an icon. Township.

Do you know how much it would cost to bring the entire location for the Guinness Records?

It has a very high cost and that is why it has not been done, but it would be our bet or contemplate it to set the Guinness Record.

On the other hand, will it ‘inherit’ works in progress?

Yes. Yaguará comes from a good administration and many works will remain in progress, our purpose is to finish each of them. In housing there is Villa Laura which is going in stages, also the Hospital, infrastructure remodeling, the facade plan that seeks to change the face of our municipality and the second phase of the Malecón.

What streets will the façade plan include?

The project has already been awarded, but has not started. All homes will have the same color; It goes along the main street, goes down Third Street, takes additional routes and finally reaches the Malecón.

Finally, the claim for annulment of the election was inadmissible…

In politics it is normal for there to be opposition, and it is also necessary for democracy to exist, but it must be done with arguments and objectivity. I have no enemies, I am the mayor of the 9,000 yaguaremos. Unfortunately, some people launched a smear campaign against us, however, we must overcome everything with clean and honest ideas and proposals.
