Former paramilitary chief Salvatore Mancuso has repeatedly stated that he has every intention of returning to Colombia to contribute to peace.

After learning that a United States immigration judge denied the request of former paramilitary chief Salvatore Mancuso to remain in that country and not be extradited to Colombia, Justice Minister Néstor Osuna assured that he respects the laws of that country, but from Colombia they will continue to insist on the extradition request.
“The extradition request for Mancuso is still valid, formally the process continues. We have resorted to the usual diplomatic channels to insist on the Colombian interest that this extradition request be processed quickly and of course with hopefully a favorable result to the request of the Colombian State”, Minister Osuna said.
Similarly, he stressed that the appointment as peace manager of Salvatore Mancuso will only be operational when he is in Colombian territory and accepts the conditions of the judiciary and the tasks assigned to him by the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace.
The Minister of Justice assured that the government of President Petro, “When he signed the resolution naming Mancuso peace manager, he took into account that he was a former member of the former United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia and will have the possibility of cooperating with current pacification processes and disarmament strategies within the population.”
