We will charge fees for steel imports from Brazil and Argentina

Istanbul / Anatolia

US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he is moving to re-impose taxes and fees on his country’s steel and aluminum imports from Brazil and Argentina.

“Brazil and Argentina are drastically reducing the value of their currencies,” Trump said in a tweet on Twitter. “This measure will not be in the interest of American farmers.”

He added: “Therefore, after depreciating the currencies of both countries, I will return duties and taxes on our steel and aluminum imports from these two countries.”

The US President did not specify the value of the fees he intends to impose on these imports.

And if Trump implements his decision to re-impose duties and taxes, Argentina and Brazil will be severely affected, as Washington is a major importer of their aluminum and steel exports.

Trump also pointed out the need for “the US Federal Reserve to do the same (lower interest rates) so that many countries do not benefit from the strong dollar … This makes it extremely difficult for manufacturers and farmers to export their goods.”
