/ world today news/ The reactions against the outbursts in the Bulgarian school show how infantile, zombified and stupid a society we have become. We have a fire that burns permanently – instead of looking for the kindling match, we wonder what kind of hose to extinguish with – long or short, should we call the fire department, should we try a fire extinguisher… And we assume heroic accusatory positions when something about extinguishing does not work. The stick, fools, the stick is important!
After the death of a fourth-grader and the murder in Borisova gradina, the work of a student at the time, the Minister of Education Nikolay Denkov said that he would strengthen security in schools and video surveillance. Opportunities for permanent provision of school doctors would also be sought. The media, on the other hand, began to count exactly how many psychologists there are in schools and rediscovered that they are few. There is nothing new in these reactions – neither as a sequence nor as an idea.
Only school doctors would make sense – to provide help on the spot, and also to take over some of the functions of overworked GPs. All other “measures” are utter nonsense. Will psychologists stop aggression? Well, it is spreading even where there are already psychologists. What exactly would security do if a fourth grader decided to kick another in the stomach, and can classrooms even be guarded like Karbala?
In every similar case over the years, the relevant minister came out and explained how he was going to introduce panic buttons and video surveillance… And every time, no one noticed that the buttons and cameras recorded the crimes, but did not prevent them (didn’t the cameras in the Boris garden stop the murder?) Other than empty vanity and imitation of actions, this charade is also caused by a sincere lack of understanding of why the hell all this is happening.
And the truth is simple. It happens because for 25 years our entire society has been moving along the path of the most extreme, sectarian market model – with its atomization, alienation, raising money into a cult and its other inherent attributes. Parents are working to exhaustion, there is no one to take care of the children, the little ones spend 8 or more hours at school (did you notice that the incident with the fourth graders happened in the afternoon – in the study room), parents are increasingly transferring responsibilities to the teachers, but can the teacher to be a parent?
After the “social institution”, respectively the state, displaces the family, the children will grow up as they are today – on a common basis. In fact, the Bulgarian school has finally become what we wanted it to be for 25 years – American. Well, we thought it would be like Beverly Hills, but it turned out like Brooklyn – with the bars, the knives in class, the blood in the corridors, the beaten teachers…
But for a quarter of a century we went in this direction, and now no one should be surprised.
The first thing we must do is admit our common stupidity. And the second – to look around, to repent for the few lost generations we have created and to humbly take care of the next ones. Because nothing can be saved now and immediately, everything that can be done will be for 25 years at the earliest.
We have to. Nobody in Bulgaria likes to think with such a horizon, but we have no other choice. Bulgaria must get rid of this extreme market model of development and introduce social forms that exist in quite a few otherwise capitalist countries.
Specifically, in education, the principle “money follows the student” must be eliminated. Because of him, schools tolerate 14-year-old criminals. And the already established bandit knows – they will not evict him, because the money follows him.
