We want to be taken seriously

The United States also has objections and demands to Russia, and Washington is ready to discuss them with Moscow. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed Kiev’s readiness to comply with the Minsk agreement, including through international support.

The Kremlin is making its demands

Russia last week filed a series of claims with the United States and NATO, demanding guarantees of legal certainty, which would mean, among other things, further non – enlargement of NATO to the east and the exclusion of NATO military operations in the former Soviet republics.

Russia: We want to be taken seriously

In response to these statements, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has stated that a very large part of Russia’s offer is not acceptable. According to him, like Russia, the United States and Europe have concerns and demands, so all these issues should be discussed with Russian representatives in various diplomatic formats. It is likely that this will happen at the beginning of next year.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also commented on Russia’s position in an interview with Russia Today on Wednesday, explaining why such legal demands are being demanded of the West.

“We have been regularly deceived, from verbal promises to political commitments in Russia-NATO relations. Therefore, this time we insist on legally binding guarantees, while realizing that the West can also violate these legal obligations and withdraw from various treaties.

We are open to such negotiations and will do our best to understand us. I hope that, given the actions we are taking to protect ourselves, we will be taken seriously. “

The supply of smartphones to Russia could be restricted

As discussions about a possible Russian aggression in Ukraine are still ongoing, talks on a possible response to such actions by Russia are ongoing. Reuters reports that the US could restrict the supply of smartphones to Russia, citing representatives of the US presidential administration.

The possibility of restricting the export of car and aircraft spare parts, as well as other materials, is also being studied. Prior to that, Washington plans to consult with leading partners in Europe and Asia.

Regarding the stabilization of the situation, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Kiev is ready to meet the requirements of the Minsk agreements, is ready to engage in negotiations with Russia and has even developed a 10-step program to achieve the set goals. This would require an update of the Normandy format and the involvement of the United States.

Ukraine does not want to wait forever for membership in NATO and the European Union

Zelensky also acknowledged that Ukraine should change the whole approach to its foreign policy, making it much more dynamic. He expressed dissatisfaction with NATO’s reluctance to provide a clear vision of the period during which Ukraine could become a member of NATO.

“We are living in a new reality and we need to change the style and philosophy of our foreign policy. It needs several things. First of all – speed. From being too conservative and very slow, our diplomacy must become lively and very fast.

At present, Ukraine is lagging behind in many processes and is forced to take others by the hand. And that’s not right. Nor can we accept the thesis that Ukraine will join the European Union in 30 years ‘time and NATO in 50 years’ time. It demotivates everyone! ”

Ukraine had hoped to receive a clear signal next year about how long Kiev can look forward to joining the North Atlantic Alliance. So far, however, NATO has made it clear that Ukraine’s accession is not expected in the foreseeable future. And, given the current tensions with Russia, this issue is also unlikely to be raised.
