We take pictures with the compact new Galaxy S23: is it really the best small camera phone?

The main pride of this year’s Galaxy S23 series in the field of photo equipment is undoubtedly the Galaxy S23 Ultra with the new 200Mpx ISOCELL HP2 sensor, but how are the “basic” Galaxy S23 models with the same camera composition?

As part of this photo article, we captured images with the compact Galaxy S23 model, but it can be assumed that the results will be completely identical to the Galaxy S23+, with which the Galaxy S23 shares all the cameras, the ISP unit for image processing, or Android 13 with the One UI 5.1 superstructure. Looking at the parameters, there have not been many changes between generations, but the post-processing associated with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2 for Galaxy chipset can theoretically do wonders. While we are preparing a photo duel of the Galaxy S22 and S23 for you, you can enjoy the first pictures from the Galaxy S23, which we tried in several different situations, or different lighting conditions.

At the same time, the Samsung Galaxy S23 can be perceived as the best compact camera on the market, at least if we take into account not only the dimensions, but also the weight, where the similarly sized iPhone 14 Pro weighs almost 30 grams more. The Apple iPhone 13 mini (which, unfortunately, has no successor in this year’s iPhone series) is smaller and lighter, but does not have a telephoto lens (this also applies to the ZenFone 9). However, one shortcoming can be observed in all three compact smartphones weighing under 170 grams, which is only the fixed focus of the ultra-wide-angle lens.
