Both Pontus Jansson and Saman Ghoddos had two great chances to equalize the 0-1 deficit against Chelsea in Saturday’s London derby, but Edouard Mendy in the guests’ goal accounted for two qualified saves – which was decisive in the match.
Chelsea eventually won the match with the odd goal and regained the league lead in the Premier League. After the match, Mendy was highly praised by his teammates for his efforts.
“Can anyone explain why he is not nominated for the Ballon d’Or? What effort… Edouard Mendy”, midfielder Anntonio Rudiger wrote on Twitter after the match.
Ben Chilwell, who scored Chelsea’s decisive goal, also praised Mendy after the match.
– Mendy was excellent. We see it in training every day and now he is starting to get the recognition he deserves in these matches as he makes great saves that give us points, Chilwell tells Sky Sports.
Zero was Edouard Mendy’s 20th Premier League in 38 starts in the Chelsea shirt.
