(ts) The Uni Baskets Münster also won their fourth home game of the season. At the 94:85 win against the Nuremberg Falcons BC In front of a season-record crowd of 2,900 fans, the university town team played 32 strong minutes and celebrated their consolidation of second place in the table. GAMEDAY.MS summarizes the voices of the protagonists over the past 40 minutes in the Berg Fidel hall.
The trainer voices
Götz Rohdewald, head coach of the Uni Baskets: “The game had ups and downs like many others. Firstly, I’m happy because we won and because we played very well at times. But in one or two phases we were unfocused and threw the ball away. But it’s also super difficult to play through every game consistently. At times we were leading by over 20 points. That’s what you have to do if you’re good. In the end, slacking off and becoming negligent is a different issue. There are few perfect games. We take away the fact that we did better than in Bochum and played very well for a long time. Now it’s Wednesday against Koblenz. We have to be just as focused, but even more focused. You have to take every opponent as seriously as if it makes no difference whether they are last or first. But few teams can do that.”
Virgil Matthews, Falcons head coach: “The Uni Baskets are playing really well this season. They played really well together and moved the ball. We knew that when we came here. They hit their shots really well. Stampley hit five of five three-pointers. You could see in the first quarter that the pressure was on the boys and only then did they get into the game. It’s hard to come back from a 15-point deficit in front of these fans. Very positive, we kept fighting and scored 50 points in the second half.”
The player voices
Nick Stampley: “We played a great game offensively, but we have to play even better defensively if we look at the result at the end. I got some open throws today where Sigu found me perfectly. I’m glad that we have a point guard in him who always finds me.”
Bo Hodges: “We played a good game. In the end we couldn’t quite pull it off. But overall it was a great game. We came out with energy and controlled their guards well. We played good defense until the last five minutes. We stayed together well and moved the ball well all over the field. Everyone got the throws they needed.”
Ty Groce: “There were phases of the game where I felt like I could have done better. So I had to go the extra mile at a critical time to maintain our lead and not let the Falcons come back. I was able to make the big plays in those minutes. Nuremberg has a young team with a lot of energy and can be really good. The decisive factor in the game was to put in the same amount of effort. We did that for most of the game. When that was no longer the case, they almost came back because they are a strong team that shows a lot of will and commitment.”
Paul Viefhues: “Our aggressiveness in defense was what made the difference today. Things went best in the phases in which we defended aggressively. Another factor was our fast game. That just suits us. They were there with a smaller rotation and got tired when we played fast. That worked well. We slacked off a little at the end.”
Julius Ferber: “We showed straight away that we were the favored team and played like that. At halftime we were relatively sure that we only needed one more real run to decide the game. We had that, and then the tension went away a bit in the fourth quarter. But we got through the game without any problems. In the end we also rebounded very well and hit our open shots. That decided the game.”
