We observed the immune response to the SK vaccine

Nasr Al-MajaliProfessor Sarah Gilbert, a scientist leading the efforts to develop the University of Oxford vaccine against the Corona virus, announced that the scientific team observed a “desired immune response” during tests that entered its third stage.

Speaking before the Science and Technology Committee of the British House of Lords during a hypothetical hearing today, Wednesday, Gilbert, who teaches vaccines at the university, said that 8,000 volunteers took the AZD1222 vaccine that was licensed to AstraZeneca in the third stage of the tests.

She added that she will not provide a specific date when the vaccine will be ready, indicating that this depends on the results of the tests.

Virtual sessions

It is reported that the Science Committee of the House of Lords, and as part of the ongoing investigation into the science of COVID-19, had decided to hold two hypothetical sessions to hear the opinions and interventions of scientists covering the immune response and the development of vaccines.

The first session was held last June 26, with the participation of many scientists and experts, and in my session today, Wednesday: Professor Sarah Gilbert, Professor of Vaccines at Oxford University and Professor Sir John Bell Professor of Medicine at the Regus College at Oxford University and Kate Bingham, participated in the first working group UK government vaccines.

Also participating in the second session were: Professor Jonathan Van Tam, medical vice president and head of the treatment team in the NHS Department of Health and Social Care, and Dr. Jonathan Sheffield, Director of Research Operations COVID-19 at the National Institute for Health Research.

The House of Lords committee discussed with leading participants participants issues related to immunology and the extent (and duration) of immunity that patients retain after infection.

She also discussed methods used to develop vaccines, with lead researchers in the Oxford and Imperial College vaccine groups, as well as a senior executive from the pharmaceutical industry.

The World Health Organization has reported that the British company AstraZeneca vaccine, the candidate for coronavirus, is “probably” the leading and most advanced vaccine in the world today.

It is expected that the production of the Oxford University vaccine will begin next October, to be available in the first stage to two billion people in the world, at reasonable costs and affordable to everyone alike. The British government has donated the full budget for the completion of the vaccine.
