“We need an opportunity to be reborn” – the opening of the solo exhibition of the artist Andris Vītoliņš in Vilnius

She said that the exhibition tells about an individual’s ability to see the future in crisis situations. Vītoliņš’s works combine the belief in ideas, thoughts and “rebirth” in the physical space, ie the ideas that have turned into objects and objects in paintings are given the opportunity to be reborn and renewed.

The exhibition will be available to visitors at Vilnius Town Hall in the Old Town of Vilnius. The exhibition will also feature the contemporary art gallery “Meno Niša”, which has been organizing international contemporary art projects in cooperation with foreign galleries, cultural institutions and individual artists since 2009.

Vītoliņš pointed out that in his works he tries to capture the “vibrant” flow of the world. According to him, on the one hand, the paintings are inhabited by relatively stable structures created by man, but on the other hand, there is also an irrational world that extends far beyond the underground, obvious environment.

“I’ve noticed that we encounter many things and phenomena like flashes – first the thought or process is active, but after a while – it fades and expands. At that moment, our physical location is important – whether we are in the center or on the periphery of the process,” said the artist.

He noted that he should talk to Ineta Done, curator of Signet Bank and especially of the bank’s art collection, about the realization of the exhibition, which has allowed a wider audience to get acquainted with the artist’s worldview. He was also pleased that the exhibition was managed in places such as Vilnius City Hall and the Art Gallery “Meno Niša”.

Vītoliņš is a Latvian painter and vice-rector and teacher of the Latvian Academy of Arts (LAA). Since 1996, the artist has been actively participating in exhibitions in Latvia and other European countries – Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Austria.

According to Mališko, the artist has long been interested in the industrial theme of art: machines, various gears, mechanisms, factories and their parts – pipes, screws, taps, connections. Vītoliņš has a master’s degree in painting from the Latvian Academy of Arts, a bachelor’s degree in visual communication, and the artist has studied at the design department for three years. In 2004, Vītoliņš received the annual award for the best debut of the magazine “Latvijas Arhitektūra”.
