“We need a further great effort”: State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg

Following the federal-state meeting, Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann presented the results and the consequences for Baden-Württemberg. He also appealed again to everyone to get vaccinated or to refresh their vaccination protection.

“We are approaching a situation that we have not yet experienced in this pandemic.” With these drastic words, Prime Minister led the way Winfried Kretschmann his statement in which he presented the results of the federal-state meeting on the corona situation. Over 450 COVID-19 patients are already being treated in the intensive care units in the country and many intensive care units are already working at their limit. In ten of the 44 districts there is only one free intensive care bed, in seven districts all beds are occupied. Therefore apply in Baden-Württemberg with the alert level already severe restrictions.

“In just a few weeks, our intensive care units will be hopelessly overloaded if things continue like this. That is why I am very concerned that we will soon no longer be able to guarantee adequate treatment for all sick people, ”warned Kretschmann.

Vaccination rate still too low

The situation is so serious because the delta variant is highly contagious and you spend much more time in closed rooms during the cold season. “The main reason is: Because far too few people are vaccinated here. But the vaccinations alone are the way out of this mess, ”emphasized Kretschmann. “That is why it is a real problem that Germany lags far behind when it comes to the vaccination quota in Europe, together with Austria and Switzerland.”

He referred to the situation in Austria, where triage teams are already being put together to decide who gets intensive medical care and who doesn’t. “We have to do everything we can to prevent such a situation here,” said Kretschmann. He again appealed to everyone get vaccinated. Both people who have not yet been vaccinated, as well as the important booster vaccination five to six months after the second vaccination.

Vaccination is the only way out of the pandemic

Because those who are vaccinated are infected less often, infect others less often and, above all, are significantly less likely to become seriously ill. That helps us the most in the long term. ”In the current situation, however, this is no longer sufficient. Therefore one has to reduce further contacts – especially people without vaccination protection. Because these people would pass on the virus much more strongly and much longer than those who were vaccinated. “We have to prevent this in order to reduce the number of new infections as quickly as possible,” said Kretschmann.

When the alert level was declared on November 17, 2021, the 2G rule and contact restrictions for people who have not recovered and who have not been vaccinated apply to large parts of public life in Baden-Württemberg. Kretschmann reminded again that these are not recommendations, but rules. The country will tighten controls.

Tougher restrictions for people without vaccination protection

With the adjustment of the Corona Ordinance on November 25, 2021, these rules will be tightened again; announced Kretschmann.

The planned tightening includes:

  • 2G + in areas with a particularly high risk – for example in bars, clubs or discos. 2G + means that vaccinated and convalescent people also have to show a rapid test.
  • Participant caps for events
  • Possible curfews for unvaccinated people in hotspot regions if the previous measures do not work sufficiently.

Baden-Württemberg will continue to maintain the occupancy rate of the intensive care beds as parameters for the warning and alarm level.

Create more vaccination offers together

On the other hand, the country will continue to do everything in its power to promote vaccinations. In addition to the mobile vaccination teams, vaccination centers are being set up in all urban and rural districts and will be operational in the coming days.

Kretschmann also called again all resident doctors who have not yet vaccinated widely to participate in the exertion. “Your country needs you now. Please expand your vaccination offer! And please do it now. If every practice in the country offers an additional vaccination day in the coming weeks – for example on a Saturday – we will make a big step forward, ”said Kretschmann’s urgent appeal. In addition, numerous large companies in Baden-Württemberg have already announced that they will continue to vaccinate through their company doctors and immediately offer booster vaccinations.

Stricter regulations at federal level

In addition to the measures at the state level, uniform federal regulations were also adopted, which will be introduced by the federal government.

These include:

  • The 3G rule will apply in the workplace in the future. Only those who have been vaccinated, those who have recovered and those who tested negative can then work on site at their workplace.
In Baden-Württemberg, workers who have not been vaccinated and who have not recovered are already obliged to accept the employer’s test offer and to document the tests themselves. The federal government will refine this and strive for daily documentation requirements by employers.
  • The obligation to work from home will be reintroduced. Wherever possible, people should work from home. In this way we avoid a lot of contacts.
  • In future, 3G will apply to long-distance and local public transport – there should be exceptions for school transport.
  • There will be free citizen tests again.
  • In the nursing homes, there are now nationwide strict test obligations for employees and visitors. In Baden-Württemberg, these test obligations already largely apply.
  • In the future, vaccination record forgers will be punished extensively.
  • Hospitals receive compensation for keeping intensive care beds free.
  • The economic aid will be extended.

Kretschmann made it clear that he was determined to ensure that the federal government introduce compulsory vaccinations for certain occupational groups such as healing and nursing professions, all employees in hospitals as well as in nursing homes and facilities for the disabled. This can only be enforced at the federal and not at the state level.

The new Corona regulation is now being coordinated and launched within the state government. As soon as details have been determined, we will, as always, provide you with detailed information on Baden-Württemberg.de and adapt our FAQ and our overviews.
