I was a biology and chemistry teacher in South Africa. When we immigrated to Israel, I took a carpentry course in Jerusalem, as a professional retraining. After him I opened a carpentry shop in the city. Later we moved to Kibbutz Maayan Baruch. When we left, I decided to make a living doing what I love. Music and wood are my hobby, all my life. At first I thought I would make a living by making a door harp, a small instrument that hangs on the door and plays when it is opened and closed. But I also saw the potential in the other instruments I build, such as the marimba xylophone and the keltir harp. Everything comes from a love for music and musical instruments. I always loved African music, I was around musicians, I tried all the instruments and it became a central interest in my life.
In “Shirat Hataz” they produce wooden musical instruments, and especially special types of harps, which are sought after by musicians from all over the world. The business, which was established 24 years ago, has one employee in addition to Peter. During the routine, there are also musical lessons for groups.
We have an amazing people, but we need a broad and honest government that works without corruption and for the people. We must continue the amazing unity in our nation even in ordinary life.
1. Simchat Torah
We were at home, sitting in front of the TV all day. We asked ourselves how this could happen, we were at a loss.
2.routine of war
Today we have an emergency class at the kibbutz, and my son-in-law is a member of it. Except for the guys who were in the reserves, everyone is now in the standby class. Within a week of the outbreak of the war there was already a large presence of the army here, right in our fields.
3. the state of the business
There is no stability. There is a lot of uncertainty about what will happen. My accountant said I deserved compensation but I got nothing. In the meantime I try to survive without it. In the last two months, there has been a resurgence of business, but passers-by hardly come, unlike the period before the war. What saved me was a big invitation from the villains of a Christian community from Jerusalem. I’m lucky because I go to business in Rosh Pina as usual. There are occasional alerts there as well. The protected space in the environment is in the carpentry building, and when there is an alarm, everyone runs to our emergency room.
4.Where did I come from?
The entire anti-Semitic trend of South Africa comes from the corruption that exists there. Nelson Mandela was amazing but he was followed by terrible corruption. Anti-Semitism in South Africa is based on the economic difficulty of the ruling party, which received support from Iran. Corruption is eating the country and it is really dangerous to be a Jew there, especially in Cape Town, which is an amazing city with lots of Muslims. Anti-Semitism is very noticeable there. The Jewish school has serious security all the time. I remember that during the Entebbe operation my students, some of whom were Muslims, praised the IDF’s action to rescue the kidnapped. Now there has been a really drastic change.
5. optimism
I feel that there is an incredible unity in the people. Sometimes it conflicts with the separation of the government. Throughout the last months, I have seen how everyone helps everyone and cooks for the soldiers, just amazing. There is a great spirit in the nation that in the end I pray that thanks to it we will throw away the hatred from among us.
