Coronavirus and vaccine, there are those who are not included in the plan. This was denounced by the Udu, with Stephano Cedirian, a medical student in the last year: “Trainee students, those who attend health facilities to complete their training and, one day, take care of patients, have been excluded from the vaccination campaign in our region. We are talking about a share of the population that frequents hospital spaces on a daily basis, alongside health workers, exposing themselves and patients to a constant risk of contagion “.
And again: “It is essential to extend the vaccination campaign to students. Since we students are required to take a compulsory internship in the ward, among other things in the red zone, not only vaccinating ourselves would protect our health but, hopefully, could reduce the risk of transmission. of the virus to our patients and loved ones. Furthermore, as future doctors, it is our prerogative to want to be an active part in the establishment of group immunity, the only solution to eradicate SARS-CoV-2 from society. For this we ask to be vaccinated together with the other health workers we work with on a daily basis “.
Andrea Gidiucci, student representative in the Academic Senate of UniPG and member of the University Left – UdU Perugia, adds: “As student representatives we have focused on the issue right from the start. Already at the end of December 2020 we exposed the problem to the University Governance, obtaining immediate support; we subsequently forwarded a series of official requests to the Hospitals of Perugia and Terni and to the Umbria Region, also through the University, to sensitize the competent institutions to the issue and request the integration of trainee students and PhD students of medical-health area in the regional plan of anti Covid-19 vaccinations. Following these reminder actions which began more than a month ago, we continue to witness an unpleasant silence on the part of the Region, which has never answered us, not even to explain its position on the issue. We therefore want to launch a further appeal to President Tesei, Councilor Coletto and Director Dario: the pandemic has shown us how important it is to invest in the training of future doctors and health professionals, in Umbria this is taking place in a condition of high risk for the whole community, let’s take action together to put an end to this situation ”.
