Actor William Hurt died a week before his 72nd birthday.
The news was announced by his son on his Twitter account.
William Hurt won an Oscar for his role as a gay prisoner in The Spider-Woman’s 1985 Kiss.
Hurt is seen by critics as an intellectual, masterfully embodying psychologically complex characters.
In recent years, he has also starred in Marvel films, starring General Thaddeus Ross in The Incredible Hulk in 2008.
