In that scene we laugh more at Laleton’s response than at the comedy: Basil Joseph
Basil Joseph started his career as a co-director with Vineeth Srinivasan’s film Tira and today he has become a leading director and actor in Malayalam. Basil is a man who emphasized humor through his films like Kunhiramayanam and Goda.
Basil’s comedies have a distinct style, albeit in action films. The movie Jeethu Joseph Nunakkuzhi, which is currently getting good reviews in theatres, is also praised by the audience for Basil Joseph’s jokes.
Basil says energy is very important when it comes to humor. Basil was talking about Mohanlal and Kuthiravattam Pappu’s scene together in the movie Thenmavin Kompath, which Malayali people watch again and again even today.
Basil says that the audience laughs after seeing Mohanlal’s reaction in that scene and the reason for that is Kothivattam Pappu’s performance. Basil told Club FM that it will work for the audience when they both perform well.
‘Energy is very important when you’re doing comedy. We have to stay pumped like this. In Thenmavin Kompathi, if he doesn’t know who he is, he should ask me.
We laugh after seeing it. Laletan can give it only if Pappu Chetan gives the material to send that answer from there. If it’s a really bad performance, sometimes we can’t react well and we can’t smile.
Then we can’t connect that smile. We wonder why he is overreacting. The two complement each other when they break there. That’s humor. It should work well for the audience,’ said Basil.
