The World Press Photo photojournalism competition has announced this year’s nominations in individual categories. The six images nominated for the main prize for photography of the year are also clear. The range of topics they reflect is wide – from a pandemic to a grasshopper invasion in Africa to a tragic explosion in Beirut. There is no Czech photographer among the nominees this year.
This year, 4,315 photographers from 130 countries entered the 64th World Press Photo competition. They sent a total of 74,470 images to the jury for review.
In addition to nominations in individual categories, the jurors also announced six photographs, which will be nominated for the main prize. Their authors are Evelyn Hockstein from the USA, Valery Melnikov and Oleg Ponomarev from Russia, Mads NIssen from Denmark, Luis Tato from Spain and Lorenzo Tugnoli from Italy. The winners of the competition will be announced on April 15.
Among the 45 nominated photographers from 28 countries this year, there is no Czech. The nominations go to the following countries: Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Greece, India, Indonesia, Italy, Iran, Ireland, Mexico, Myanmar, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the USA.
