We know more about the future military hospital

He was already talking about it in April 2020. The Minister of Defense, François Bausch (Déi Gréng), gave some details about the future military hospital in Luxembourg, in a parliamentary committee.

“It would be a flexible structure, designed in collaboration with Uni.lu and AMMD (Association of Doctors and Dentists). In normal times, it would deal in particular with research missions (and training, editor’s note), and could very quickly be converted into a crisis hospital to respond to specific situations ”, we already knew. That is to say in the event of a health, civil or military crisis.

There is now talk of connecting this new entity, with an underground tunnel, to the new “Südspidol” hospital, which is under construction in the south of the country. An interministerial group in collaboration with the University of Luxembourg and the AMMD is in the process of drafting the specifications to select the experts for the feasibility study.

Calendar level, François Bausch hopes to adopt the financing bill before the summer of 2023, with the aim of completing the construction of the military hospital in 2028. He specified that the costs could be taken into account in the expenditure of defense for NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).

The pandemic has shown Luxembourg’s needs on this subject, however, François Bausch specifies that this is not an awareness linked to the crisis, but which dates from 2016, where the ministry “noted a need national for medical care in the event of a health disaster ”.
