The PEC is – almost – gone. The elected officials will have to vote for the concession for the development of the future exhibition and congress center (PEC), today in the metropolitan council.
This equipment will replace the Acropolis convention center, whose demolition is announced in 2024, but also the exhibition center intended to become a “cultural” place. In the glass-fronted building, surrounded by two hotels, will take place the great hall of the TNN, also demolished, as well as a carnival museum.
For the congress area, the schedules not being in phase between the destruction of the existing building and the construction of the future building, an ephemeral structure installed near Nikaïa will make the link in order to ensure the continuity of the activity.
The future PEC, which will find its place on the premises of the current MIN (which will move to the La Baronne district in La Gaude), will be carried out as part of “of a larger development operation associating this structuring equipment with the creation of large-scale public spaces and equipment”, according to a document from the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis. A document that specifies the project.
A landscaped park
The landscaped park would be approximately 49,000m2. It should be delivered “priority” end of 2025. It would include: a forecourt of around 10,000m2 that could accommodate exhibitions, and new pedestrian and vehicle access.
The MIN Fleurs hall will be retained. Through its rehabilitation, it will be possible to accommodate 18,000m2 of surface open to the public and 13,000m2 for parking.
New facilities
New buildings will be built on approximately 25,000m2. Inside, a modular auditorium divisible into two or three spaces and able to accommodate up to 2,500 seats. It is the same capacity as the Apollo room in Acropolis, the second in France by its dimensions.
Will also be fitted out: an additional 700-seat auditorium, technical areas, an exhibition hall, also divisible into two or three exhibition areas, modular meeting rooms with 15 to 20 spaces, a “catering” area and an exterior forecourt of 10,000m2.
In total, the future PEC will occupy an area “of approximately 47,000m2 resulting in the creation of a floor area of 43,000 to 53,000m2”.
