Coach Pavel Vrba ended up on the bench of the Ostrava players. After Sunday’s 0: 0 in Liberec, the former national team coach agreed with the Baník management to terminate the collaboration early.
The team has been temporarily taken over by assistants David Oulehla and Jan Baránek Jr., the club is discussing Vrba’s successor.
“The situation is like this. After eleven rounds we are in 14th place in the standings, neither the results nor the performances correspond to our expectations,” said Luděk Mikloško, the new head of the sports department in Baník.
Vrba returned to Baník in the summer after eighteen years, but ultimately left the club after less than four months.
“It is up to us to acknowledge not only this fact, but also the general current state of the entire A-Team. We have come to the conclusion that this solution is now the best possible solution for both parties. Obviously, we envisioned it in different way and we believed in a long-term successful collaboration, but football is already like that in some things, unpredictable and everything can change in a few weeks, “said Baník owner Václav Brabec.
After eleven rounds of top competition, Baník is in fourteenth place in the standings with eleven points. Pod Vrba, who joined the club ahead of the season, have lost four of their six home games. He did not lose away from home and drew in all five games.
In the domestic cup, Baník managed to overtake third-league Kroměříž, but the game was decided in their favor after a 3: 3 draw, only on penalties.
The 58-year-old Vrba celebrated his biggest success with Pilsen, with whom he won three league titles and three times in the group stage of the Champions League. He coached the national team from December 2013 to June 2016 and led it to the European Championship. He also worked in Slovakia with the teams of Púchov and Žilina, in the Bulgarian Ludogorets Razgrad and briefly managed the Russian Makhachkala.
