Tatyana is an early Christian martyr. Born into the family of a rich, but fearful and hiding faith in Christianity Roman family, Tatiana takes the path of chastity from a child. Completely imbued with this faith, Tatyana was ordained as a deaconess and devoted herself entirely to charity and unceasing prayer. At that time, the 16-year-old Alexander Severus (205-238) ascended the Roman throne. He had eclectic beliefs: indifferent to the beliefs of others, he did not adhere to a particular worldview, which is why among the idols of various pagan deities in his home he also had the image of Christ. Tatiana falls victim to him. Disregarding her noble position and her blameless life, they took her to the temple of Apollo to offer sacrifice. Not only did the girl refuse to do so, but at her prayer the idol crumbled and broke into pieces.
After the vain exhortations of the mayor to deny Christ, the young Tatyana was repeatedly subjected to the most ferocious tortures, even hurting her eyes and cutting strips from her skin. According to the scriptures, after each torture, God performed a miracle with his confessor – she appeared the next day cured.
When once, after a whole day’s torture, they took the girl to the dungeon all night, she, illuminated by an incorruptible light, loudly glorified God, invited by heavenly angels who healed her terrible wounds. And this miracle did not move the torturer. The next day, he subjected her to cruel torture again. Tired of her invincibility, the powerless governor ordered her to be handed over to the starving beasts, but the released lion fell silent around the holy martyr and meekly licked her feet.
Filled with fear lest such a sight should convert other pagans to the hateful faith of the “Galileans”, the governor ordered her to be beheaded immediately. The father of the martyr suffered the same fate.
Because of the great torture she was subjected to, the church canonized her as the holy great martyr Tatiana.
