We have replaced Russian oil with imports from Saudi Arabia and Nigeria | Economy

Since the war in Ukraine, we have been getting significantly less crude oil from Russia. Instead, oil imports from Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and the United States in particular increased sharply.

Total crude oil imports amounted to more than 43 billion euros between March 2022 and the end of that year, an increase of 78 percent, Statistics Netherlands reports. This increase was mainly caused by higher oil prices. Imports increased by 15 percent in volume.

Imports from Russia decreased by about 14 percent to a value of 6.2 billion euros. At the same time, imports from Saudi Arabia (+287 percent), Nigeria (+115 percent) and the United States (+85 percent) increased sharply. To a lesser extent, imports from Norway and the United Kingdom also increased.

Russia was still the most important import country for crude oil in 2022. More than 14 percent of all crude oil came from there. A year earlier this was more than 29 percent.

Since the beginning of December there has been a European ban on the import of crude oil from Russia. It is possible that Russian oil is still coming this way, if it is mixed with oil from other countries.
