We have made significant progress in the transition to green energy

Today, Friday, in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, the Forum for the Green Saudi Initiative 2022 opened on the sidelines of the COP27 climate summit.

“We have made important progress in the transition to green energy,” Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said during the opening session of the forum, listing the achievements so far.

“Each year we will get greener as we go forward,” he added.

He also mentioned the Kingdom’s climate goal to be achieved net zero carbon emissions The year 2060, he added, depends on technology and the kingdom hopes to reach it sooner.

He said: “We will ask the countries of the world what they offer because we want others to match us and direct their money to support the causes they claim.”

He added that the state-owned oil company, Aramco, has the lowest methane emissions of all standards.

He also referred to the goal that clean energy make up 50% of the energy mix in the Kingdom.

The Saudi Minister of Energy said that the issue will move from ambition to action and “we are ready and have a commitment to the Middle East and the Kingdom through green initiatives”.

He continued: “We are committed to reducing carbon emissions by 278 million tons and I am confident that we will be able to achieve it, and I said a long time ago that we plan and aim to generate 50% of electricity from renewable energy, and 400 megawatts of clean energy have already been generated, such as reducing carbon emissions by about one million tons.

He also referred to renewable energy projects in Saudi Arabia, with more than 13 projects in the sector with a capacity of 11.4 gigawatts and investments of 34 billion riyals, in light of the ambition to reduce around 21 million tons of emissions. per year.

He said Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy program has won international awards and plans to develop 10 more renewable energy projects will be completed next year.
