“We have detained 679 dangerous drivers so far in 2024” – Diario La Página – 2024-04-07 08:55:44

The General Director of Transit, Alfredo Alvayero, confirmed to the press that so far in 2024, the capture of 679 drunk drivers has already been reported, which represents an increase of 48% in relation to those detained in the 2023.

The official was last night at one of the anti-doping controls that the Vice Ministry of Transportation (VMT) set up at the national level, where he stated that they carry out this type of actions to prevent road accidents, as part of the work articulated with the different Government institutions to ensure safety. to all road users.

“We have coordinated work between agents of the National Civil Police (PNC) and managers and inspectors of the VMT. With them we were able to identify drivers who have made the bad decision to drive after having consumed alcoholic beverages,” the official explained.

“We call on all drivers to avoid this type of risky behavior. We have an active campaign called “Don’t Take Risks” that has to do with the responsibility of driving a motor vehicle and the risk of not respecting traffic regulations,” stated Alvayero.

“These checks are important because we are identifying an average of 6 dangerous drivers stopped per day. Last year, the average was 5. This year we had 679 dangerous drivers arrested, last year, for this same period we had 460 dangerous drivers arrested, which means an increase of 48% more than last year,” he explained.

“Our objective is not to seek to stop drivers, because there are various alternatives to avoid exposure. If you know that you are going to go out and consume alcohol, then avoid driving a motor vehicle, look for alternative means or have a designated driver so as not to put yourself at risk or have problems with the law. We will continue to be deployed on all roads in the country to generate better conditions. of road safety”, pointed out the head of Transit.
