The gang behind “The World’s Worst Man” is not at all afraid to go home disappointed from Hollywood if they do not get an Oscar statuette.

– We live very, very well with that, I must admit, says Eskil Vogt to NTB.
On Monday night Norwegian time, he and director Joachim Trier can win a historic Oscar for best original screenplay for “The World’s Worst Man”. The film may also be the first Norwegian to win an award for best international film.
– I feel we have already won. I think that if I die in a plane crash in 20 years, then it will say “Oscar-nominated screenwriter dies in a plane crash”, so it will hang on even if we do not win, says Vogt.
He points out that they did not expect to be nominated for an Oscar for the film at all, and that it was not something they worked for.
– These are just bonuses, and they are absolutely fantastic bonuses. My God, we are Oscar-nominated, he says.
Reinsve: – Completely surreal
The solemn Oscars take place in the Great Hall of the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. The show is broadcast live all over the world and is directed this year by Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes.
Several Norwegians appear on the red carpet. Minister of Culture Anette Trettebergstuen (Labor Party) is present.
The same goes for the lead actors, director, photographer, editor and producers of “The World’s Worst Man”.
– It’s just extremely fun to be with, to be able to be at that party. It is something you have followed all your life. And look at the distance. And then all of a sudden we have to participate. It’s completely surreal. It will be so much fun, says the main character Renate Reinsve.
She considers the chances of winning to be moderate, but says that she will certainly not be disappointed if it does not work out.
Co-actor Anders Danielsen Lie says that he has not even thought about the possibility that they will win.
– I have not even gone into that scenario, he says.
– It is unlikely that Norway will win
Among the betting companies and film experts, the Japanese film “Drive my car” is the big favorite to walk away with the award for best international film, while “Licorice Pizza” is considered the favorite for best original script.
– We think it is unfortunately for Norwegian film fans that it seems very unlikely that “The World’s Worst Man” will win an award during the Oscars, says CEO Adam Vella of the betting company Bettson in a press release.
In any case, Norway has already collected one Oscar statuette this year, a historic Honorary Oscar which was awarded to Liv Ullmann on Friday.
If “The World’s Worst Man” should not be awarded, Norway also has some “reserve chances” through two nominated films that have Norwegian co-producers, namely “Escape” and “Writing with Fire”.

“The world’s worst human director Joachim Trier points out that it’s incredible to be nominated anyway. He is grateful for the enthusiasm it has created in Norway.
– We have received a lot of emails from people who say they should be awake and follow the broadcast. I think that is incredibly nice. That’s how we have been doing all these years ourselves, seen Oscar and been up until early in the morning, he says.
The gang behind the film leaves behind some extremely busy months, with travel and promotional work around the world. In Hollywood, they have this week participated in a number of events together with other nominees and celebrities.
It is the more than 10,000 members of the Oscar Academy who decide who runs away with the prizes. Voting ended on Tuesday, and thus it has been possible to lower the shoulders a little in the last week for the nominees.
– Everything is really decided, only that no one knows the result. So nothing we do now has any effect on who wins the prize or not, says Vogt.
– Now we can be stupid and drunk and smile with friends, says Trier.
