Martin Dúbravek gained a strong competitor in Newcastle United. His name means Pope in English, and the presentation by which the club announced his arrival followed.
Thirty-year-old English representative Nick Pope is coming to Newcastle United from Burnley, who dropped out of the Premier League last season. The price for the eight-time English representative is estimated at 15 million euros and he signed the contract for four seasons.
Pope caught 141 league matches for Burnley, kept a clean sheet nine times in the previous season, but did not prevent him from relegating to the second highest competition. “I’m here now and I can’t wait. It took a few weeks for the transfer to take place, but then it went fast,“said Pope, who will fight with Dúbravka for the post of the unit.
The 30-year-old Slovak caught 26 matches in the previous year’s Premier League and scored a clean sheet eight times. “I am excited that we have gained very strong competition in our staff for a very important position. Nick is an excellent goalkeeper at the club and national team level. This summer he was interested in several clubs, so I thank our owners and other people behind this transfer for that we overtook them, ” added coach Eddie Howe.
