“We had no bad intentions.” Dynamo – Rangers match referees explained why they stole the road sign

Polish referees Bartosz Frankowski and Tomasz Musial, who were supposed to work for VAR in yesterday’s match of the 3rd qualifying round Champions League between Kyiv”Dynamo“and Scottish”Rangers“(1:1), he said scandal with his involvement.

Tomasz Musyal and Bartosz Frankowski

Let us remind you that on the night before the mentioned fight, these two referees were drunk (one of them had a breathalyzer that showed about 1.8 ppm of alcohol in the blood, and the other – 1.7 ), and then stole a street sign. The police arrested them, fined them, and took them to a sobering center. UEFA banned the “cheerful referees” from officiating at the match.

Yesterday the judges mentioned what happened.

“Of course, I’m still trying to find words that can adequately express how sorry I am that this incident happened and how sorry I am. I understand that with one such breach, I have ruined 22 years of judicial work, that I have ruined my entire career. It was stupidity, a silly fantasy, I don’t even know what to call it. I had to prepare calmly for the game and not go anywhere. Then nothing would have happened.

As one of the policemen told me later, CCTV cameras caught our mood. And they intervened. I would like to make it clear that we were not aggressive in any way. This was a stupid joke. We had no idea it would be seen this way. We had no bad intentions. The story with this sign was a silly game. Now, looking back, I realize that it was not a very wise idea. It was a sign that was lying next to a place where road work was being done. And we passed …” Frankowski said.

“I would like to apologize to everyone and say a few words of clarification.

I am very sorry that this happened. And from a purely human point of view, it was stupid, because I know that my unsuccessful behavior will cast a shadow over many years of hard work.

What happened was reckless and unprofessional on my part, and I am well aware of that. I just want to emphasize that there were no aggressive actions in my behavior, I did not break the law, and there was no misconduct on my part towards police officers or random passers-by . No charges were brought against me, I was only fined.

I sincerely apologize to the management of the Polish Football Association, especially to the College of Referees, the Ekstraklasa authorities and everyone whom I have disappointed with my opinion.

In particular, I also apologize to my family because my behavior has endangered their peace.

This is the first such case with my participation. Over the years of my professional refereeing career, I have worked hard to get to where I am today. And he always tried to lead by example, both on and off the field.

I am aware of the consequences that await me, but I hope that I can revive myself and restore confidence in myself,” said Musyal in turn.

We say that the two referees are now in danger of being suspended for life: the Polish Football Association has already announced that the College of Referees will send a request to the management of the organization to terminate the contracts with Frankowski and Musial.
