/ world today news/ The former finance minister of Greece, Yanis Varoufakis, expressed the opinion that the austerity measures imposed on Greece are doomed to failure, writes The Scotsman newspaper
“Alexis Tsipras has decided that his government, our government, is headed for the head.” We had the choice between execution and surrender, and he decided that surrender was the better strategy. I did not agree with him and that is why I resigned, but I clearly understand the difficulty of the position he is in. We both consider the EU’s positions towards the government to be undemocratic and economically irrational,” said Varoufakis.
According to him, the austerity measures imposed on Greece will strengthen the positions of the extreme right and that “they are doomed to failure regardless of who tries to implement them”.
For him, the program “will go down in history as the greatest macroeconomic disaster of all time.”
