PORDENONE – The rest homes in the province of Pordenone enter a sort of state of “orange alert”, an antechamber to the red one experienced last spring. The outbreak that broke out at Casa Serena and the case discovered at the ASP of Cordenons, where an operator tested positive, sounded the alarm bell in all the facilities for the elderly in Western Friuli. And the directors of individual retirement homes are ready to immediately launch new safety measures to protect the elderly and infirm, that is, the two categories that can most suffer fatal consequences after contracting the Coronavirus. On the other hand, the data of the Region speak for themselves: from the beginning of the emergency, approximately one in three Covid deaths was in RSA or in a retirement home. Protecting at all costs therefore becomes the first imperative to put into practice to demonstrate that you have learned the lesson of spring. And there will be two ways: the further limitation of parental visits, up to the total closure, and the increase of the rhythm with which the tests are carried out. And this second theme will also affect the accounts of the individual retirement homes.
THE DETAILS
The directors of the main structures for the elderly in the province of Pordenone say they are ready to suspend the visits of the relatives of the elderly guests. At the moment the rules remain those of the summer, with limited admissions and by appointment, but the close is already ready. “The outbreak of Casa Serena – explains for example Alessandro Santoianni, director of the San Vito nursing home -, to whom all our affectionate encouragement and closeness goes, as well as recent cases in schools close to us or in very neighboring areas , underline the need to keep caution and every possible precaution very high ». And again: «We will not hesitate even a second to” seal “the retirement home if the situation worsens, absolutely interrupting the visits. We are aware of the problem, but our priority is to defend the elderly ». And most of the colleagues are on the same line, while visits to Casa Serena and the Asp of Cordenons have already been suspended and at the moment it is not known when and if they will resume shortly. In some residences (San Vito in the head) the paths dedicated to external personnel have already been redesigned (for example for technicians who are dedicated to maintenance), in order to limit contacts with the internal members of the individual structures to a minimum. In a nutshell, the system is closing in on itself, but there is an issue that risks weighing more than the others in terms of the already difficult prevention of contagion in homes for the elderly.
EXAMS
The issue in question is that of tampons. At the regional level, a periodic screening of personnel is planned, but in the province the operation is suffering serious delays, as witnessed a few days ago on these pages. There are nursing homes that are even a month and a half behind the schedule and which are therefore “uncovered” and more at risk. For this reason, some executives decided to do it themselves, buying rapid antigen tests from private individuals and subjecting staff to extra checks. This is once again the case of the San Vito retirement home, but from a provincial survey it emerges that the San Vito one is not the only one. Meanwhile, yesterday at Casa Serena the thirty “transversal” operators who were buffered were all negative.
