«Women feel naked due to Osakidetza’s neglect; no to social cuts in health ». Under this motto, The Argitan Women’s Advisory Center association has demonstrated this Friday in front of the Cruces hospital, in Barakaldo, with costumes that simulated naked bodies, in an act on the occasion of the commemoration of the International Day for Women’s Health. «We are meeting first-hand with the cuts in primary care and in psychological and mental health care services, among others, and the referrals that come to us from Osakidetza due to their lack of ability to provide the care that women need, ”said the group.
The protesters have also warned about the delays in some specific check-ups for women, such as gynecological or prevention of breast and cervix cancer, which are taking place in Osakidetza “with the excuse of the covid and the consequences that this entails on our health, with late detections of cancers and causing cerebrovascular accidents due to not being treated on time or in person”. A situation, they have warned, that “adds to the problems of neglect that we had already been dragging.” In this sense, they have stressed that there is a lack of gender perspective in the Basque Health Service, which “seriously harms the health of women, with a tendency towards over-medication with anxiolytics and antidepressants without any control or monitoring.”
In the same way, Argitan has pointed out that women with fewer resources are the most disadvantaged, since the delays in gynecological check-ups and treatments “represent the detour to private medicine for a good number of women. From the Baracaldesa association they have warned that they will continue to denounce the cuts in health and demand a complete public health that guarantees the right to health of all women. «We demand a quality, comprehensive, universal healthcare, that it is endowed with all the necessary resources and that it is available to all ».
