The Minister of Education and Higher Education in the Interim Government, Abbas al-Halabi, said, after his meeting with the sheikh of the mastermind of the Druze monotheistic sect, Sheikh Sami Abi al-Muna in the sect’s house – Verdun, “I was honored to visit Abi al-Muna to discuss several affairs, including the tragedy that befell the educational family with the death of student Maggie Mahmoud and the injury of her two classmates, Hassan and Shaza, and we underlined the solidarity with families and the desire to follow the investigation, in order to arrange the criminal and civil responsibilities of the perpetrators, perpetrators and participants. We also stressed the continuity of the school year in Tripoli and the focus on formal education in Lebanon, and as it is known, it has a continuous role as a leading pillar in the educational family and its interest in this field, where we have insisted together to protect the school with its official sections and private, away from the populist discourses that have spread recently.
He added, “We discussed with him the issue of holding spiritual summits and consultations about them, as there is a great need these days to achieve unity of ranks and national standing vis-à-vis national and constitutional rights in the country Abi Al-Muna conveyed to us the result of the teachers union’s recent visit to private schools and the demands he made.” I have presented it, and we know it too, and therefore we will try, God willing, to achieve these demands, in cooperation with the Government and the Honorable Parliament, especially as regards the unity of legislation between the public and the private.
Abi Al-Mona also received a delegation from the International Union of Nature (IUCN) National Committee, chaired by Fadi Ghanem, which included: Professors Nadim Nassour and Michel Hassoun. The discussion addressed general national and environmental issues, including the plan for the next four years.
Instead, Abi Al-Muna telegraphed to the Turkish ambassador in Lebanon, Ali Barish Ulusoy, and to the director of the Turkish development agency “TIKA” in Lebanon, Orhan Aydin, condolences for the victims of the “terrorist explosion that hit the city of Istanbul”, during which he wished “the esteemed Turkish Chairmanship, the Agency and the friendly Turkish people continued prosperity”. Advancement and strengthening of immunity, in the face of any aggression aimed at destabilizing Turkey.
