Now without the characteristic pigtails to which Boris Izaguirre has jokingly attributed part of the triumph – “You have to update yourself”, he jokes -, Sofía has been able to enjoy the lights of Vigo before the final victory to be held today at the Superior Conservatory . “Tonight I go yes or yes to see them. We’re going to do some sightseeing,” she celebrated shortly after stepping off the stage.
–What attracts you to the Vigo contest? Is there a good atmosphere among the participants?
-It’s very professional and there’s a great atmosphere. And many people I know also come, because in Spain music is like a handkerchief, and they enjoy it a lot.
–How was the last year since you won the “Prodigies” television contest?
–I was invited to many concerts and put together quite a repertoire. It was all very nice because I had new experiences like playing at the National Auditorium in Madrid or at the Teatro Real. I’m really happy.
–Do those big scenes make you nervous or do you like them?
– Above all I am very excited because they are special occasions that I love. But also a little nervous, because for an artist there must always be nerves. You have to be alert as well as enjoy yourself. This year I focused more on concerts and next year I will do it on competitions and put together new repertoires
–Why contests matter in yours career?
–Especially because they are like personal challenges.
–Although you are so young, you work hard and study a lot. Does it compensate you?
-Of course. You have to study and work hard and be very focused so that the results come later. There is so much sacrifice behind it and not only from us, but also from our parents, who carry us and take us to places. You always have a team behind you, my mother and teacher Savva Fatkulin accompany me to all concerts and competitions.
You will be 13 next week.
–Yes, on the 17th. And as a gift from myself I’m going to New York. I am very happy (laughs).
–At what age and why did you start playing the violin?
-At the age of 6. My brother is also a violinist and from an early age I practically listened to him play and went to his concerts. And since he’s my older brother, I guess I always wanted to follow his example of him, plus when I heard it I really liked it. So my parents saw me so happy that they decided to enroll me in the course and here I am!
And keep playing?
–Yes, even if now she’s put it aside a bit because she’s studying acting at the National Theater in London.
– A whole family of artists.
–Sure, sure (laughs).
–In the “Prodigios” competition you performed classical pieces and other more contemporary ones such as a rock version of the soundtrack of “The Phantom of the Opera”.
–I consider myself a versatile musician because I love playing both classical and rock music. It is funny. The important thing is that it’s good. Like the queen. I’m waiting for the opportunity to sing a song by him. There has to be a balance. Everything classical is the basis of art and music, but we live in the 21st century and we also need to know about today’s music.
–And what do you like about current music?
–Almost any type of music, but I really like pop and I mostly listen to Britney Spears (laughs). Reggaeton is very fashionable, you need to know that, of course, from what I said before. But I like Aitana and Ana Mena. There are many people who think that we only like classical music. Noooo! We also like other things.
–And how do you reconcile your musical career with your studies?
– I study remotely on a virtual platform and it is very easy for me to organize myself, because I dedicate two hours and the rest to violin.
You are clear that it is your future.
-Very clear.
–Your Facebook account allows you to follow your career almost up to date, do you like social networks?
–They are very good because they bring us closer to people. Those of us who play classical music usually don’t have a large audience because most people still don’t understand why it’s beautiful, nobody explains it to them. That’s why it’s important to get close to them. And they also allow us musicians to get to know each other.
