“On his CV, we do not see someone who will change things”, affirmed Saturday, May 21 on franceinfo, doctor Olivier Milleron, cardiologist at the Bichat hospital in Paris and member of the Inter-Hospitals collective, about Brigitte Bourguignon, appointed Friday as Minister of Health and Prevention.
Brigitte Bourguignon was “the deputy under Hollande who passed all the laws that have done a lot of harm to the public hospital”, before being Minister Delegate for Health under Emmanuel Macron. Olivier Milleron considers that there is “need to announce an emergency plan” facing the situation in the public hospital.
Olivier Milleron regrets that he has “it took three weeks to appoint a new minister, when the situation is catastrophic” in the public hospital. “The French population does not currently have access to quality care”, he says, especially in the emergency room. In several cities in France, emergency services are partially closed due to lack of staff. Olivier Milleron hopes that Brigitte Bourguignon will “the observation of this situation”which will change “Olivier Véran’s denial”the previous Minister of Health.
Olivier Milleron asks for “novel solutions” in the face of “unprecedented situations”like the “salary increases” as quickly as possible to attract caregivers to the hospital, or even the inclusion in the law of a patient/caregiver ratio. “A nurse cannot take good care of more than eight patients”he assures. “We have to make people want to work in the public hospital again”.
