The staff and parents of students at Fabien College in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) denounce the attack on a teacher by a student during a lesson on Friday April 15.
The facts happened”during the class“. “A student violently attacked one of our colleagues with her bare hands“, Friday morning, deplores a collective of members of the staff of the Fabien college in Saint-Denis, in a press release relayed on Twitter. “Immediately, students intervened to protect their teacher“, continues the collective.
The victim was then “taken care of by the Samu and carried out in the hospital“. The staff denounce a “particularly serious aggression“.
On the parents’ side, Catherine Denis, FCPE representative at Fabien College, confirms a “physical assault by a student on a teacher“. “There are frequent incidents in our college, but it is quite an unusual event in its seriousness. As parent delegates, we have seen nothing but support from students and families. She is truly a caring and dedicated teacher. We were very shocked“, she says.
“In the current political context, we refuse any recovery of this event which would tend to further stigmatize our students.“, underlines for its part the collective of personnel. The latter highlight “the context” at the origin according to them of the aggression.
“This incident is by no means an isolated phenomenon. It is the symptom of a situation that has deteriorated dramatically in recent years, mainly due to a lack of resources and personnel.“, explains the collective.
The members of the college staff point the finger at the refusal of the classification in REP+ (Reinforced priority education network) of the establishment, today classified REP, “following an administrative error“. “These means would allow us to prevent this kind of crisis: above all, the classes would be less busy, which would promote better support for students and a more peaceful class atmosphere.“, says the collective.
The staff also point the finger at the non-replacement of teachers, sometimes “absent for more than six months“. And this, while the collective fears “yet another class closure for the next school year“.
Catherine Denis also deplores “lack of human and budgetary resources” despite “a team of teachers who are struggling“. “For example, a history-geography teacher has been missing for six months. This leads to major gaps in terms of learning. In the shorter term, the children do not know how they will be able to manage their test of the patent. My son is in third, he missed the equivalent of a year of schooling since sixth“, denounces the FCPE representative.
We do not excuse the gesture of the student, but the kids need to be supervised. We bring up our problems, but we don’t see a lot of changes.

The college received this Tuesday the Academic Director of the National Education Services (Dasen), who decided to set up a psychological cell, indicates Catherine Denis. “They listened, taking the point of view of the families and then of the teachers“, she explains.
The FCPE representative said to herself, however, “worried about the reduction in resources still scheduled for the future” : “It feels like we’ve been taking things away from college for years. The establishment is under tension. We do not excuse the gesture of the student, but the kids need to be supervised. We escalate our issues, but we don’t see a lot of changes.”
Catherine Denis explains that the parents of students decided this weekend “to write to Madame Macron“. “one last hope“, according to the representative FCPE.
