In a joint appeal, twelve directors of public theaters are calling on the government on Monday to reopen the museums, a “first stone to restore a little hope and joy”.
It is important that art and culture become accessible again to those who want it, and as quickly as possible. It is now clear that a real psychological distress is taking hold among our fellow citizens and particularly among the youth of our country.
Of course, we have both made welcome attempts to keep in touch digitally with those who frequent our establishments, but that is not enough. Nothing can replace the direct, physical confrontation with the works and with those who wear them.
We, directors of public theaters, call on the government to reopen museums: they can be the scouts, the first stone to give back a little hope and joy, that famous light at the end of this long tunnel.
We would like to say here that we would see this reopening of museums as the first stone of an edifice that concerns us all.
Museums are places of strolling, we can understand that they are the first to show the way of a gradual and reasonable return towards access to works. It is important today, while remaining extremely vigilant in the face of the pandemic, to re-oxygenate our hearts and minds in order to be able to hold out and redouble our efforts in the fight against the virus. Art is also one of the treatments for the ills of our time.
