“We didn’t hear him on other holidays!” – The Daily Standard

PVV leader Geert Wilders and minister Ferd Grapperhaus (CDA) are fighting a holiday feud on social media. As always around Ramadan and other holidays celebrated by Muslims, Wilders cannot resist criticizing Islamic traditions. This time also Grapperhaus has to pay for it, who, according to Wilders, is selective in wishing for a nice holiday. We did not hear the minister during Christmas and Easter, says Wilders.

It’s Ramadan again, so then you can set the clock on one event: Geert Wilders who feels compelled to get his gray-rolled PVV record from the stable; because according to the PVV leader, Ramadan is anything but a period of reflection and purification.

Apart from the usual PVV rhetoric, Wilders was completely wrong this time.

Grapperhaus has indeed expressed its best wishes during other holidays. On Twitter, the PVV leader rightly received a wipe from the CDA minister:

For Wilders, however, it makes little difference whether he made a mistake or not. His point has been made once again. With his rash actions, the PVV leader once again shows why hardly any party wants to work with him. In recent months, the party had emerged as a substantive, critical party regarding the corona crisis. But unfortunately the party is accrued credit is lost again when Wilders started to complain about the suspension of the curfew because of Ramadan.

The Netherlands now really knows that the PVV is very anti-Islam, so these kinds of social media reports are absolutely not going to help the party. And certainly not if they are completely unfounded. Wilders could have criticized better the content of the message from Grapperhaus. Because also wish Christians and Jews happy holidays? That is what the so-called minister of worship does.
