RoyaltyThe makers of ‘Harry & Meghan’, the documentary series of the Sussexes on Netflix, are not pleased with Buckingham Palace. They tried to discredit the claims of Prince Harry (38) and Meghan Markle (41) by saying that the makers did not ask for a reply. Which, according to Liz Garbus, one of the makers, was the case.
Liz Garbus spoke plain language to ‘Vanity Fair’. According to her, they did contact the royals about the series. Buckingham Palace said we were not seeking comment from them. They did that to discredit us… And by discrediting us, they’re doing the same to the content of the series.” Garbus also admitted in the interview that it was her idea to discuss racism and colonialism in “Harry & Meghan.” “What was really important to me was to connect the dots on these larger historical issues.”
A source from the palace previously maintained that the royal family was not involved in the making of the series. Someone from Netflix responded that they contacted the communications officers of King Charles and Prince William in advance. They were reportedly expressly given the opportunity to respond to Harry and Meghan’s statements. Miscommunication, the communications agencies said. They claimed they received an email from an outside production company, not from Netflix itself. They would then have contacted Harry, Meghan and the streaming service, without success.
Garbus’ response comes after a discussion broke out shortly after the documentary’s release. At the beginning appears: “Members of the royal family declined to comment on the content of the series.” In any case, a Buckingham Palace insider thinks he knows that no royal will respond to the couple’s recent revelations.
