“The Association for the Safeguarding of Hospitals and Health in the Hautes Pyrénées was created last autumn, it brings together 250 people: activists and citizens who wish to defend a real public health service in the department. We oppose the single hospital project in the municipality of Lanne and the disappearance of the two local hospitals in Tarbes and Lourdes. We will continue to inform citizens about this project which goes against health needs, endangers the exercise of a real public hospital service, by reducing the number of beds and caregivers. We will continue to get the petition signed. We are asking for access to updated documents concerning the single hospital project,” explains Marie Claire Delemotte, co-president of the association.

Video. Tarbes - New hospital in Lanne:

“This is a meeting with users and caregivers to have our petition signed against the single hospital in Lanne. The hospital is cracking up! Even though in many cases it is the only recourse for the population due to the lack of general practitioners and/or specialists in town. In reality, it is the hospital professionals who are cracking up, victims of the organized decline in health spending for more than 30 years. It is the entire healthcare and prevention system that no longer meets the needs of the population. Where there was proximity and access to care, there is a shortage.
Where there was excellence in equal access, there is standardized and degraded care. In our department, the Bagnères emergency room is closed in the evening, there is no longer a palliative care service, services are only provided in Pau, the loss of opportunity for stroke patients is real , thousands of Upper Pyrenees do not have a regular doctor….. And, in the absence of any real public debate, we would be led to believe that a single hospital would solve all the problems? The populations, the elected officials, have their say on the healthcare system of the territory”, explains José Navorro, co-president of the association.

The association held a press conference at 3 p.m. in front of the hospital entrance hall to explain this approach (see our video).
