We deliver mainly corn and sunflower to China – Agro Plovdiv – 2024-10-21 08:56:00


Of the 38 open procedures for the export of Bulgarian agricultural goods and food, 11 have been finalized

Bulgaria is a leader in export of agricultural products for China among the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Dr. Georgi Tahov, at a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture with Du Jiahao – Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the National Assembly of People’s Representatives of the People’s Republic of China.

The minister noted that in 2023, the value of agricultural exports has doubled compared to 2022, with significantly increased supplies of corn and sunflower contributing the most. “In 2023, trade in agricultural and food products between Bulgaria and China was worth USD 640.6 million. e., which is nearly 38% above the level of 2022. About 47% of Bulgaria’s total exports to China are agricultural and food products. Imports of agricultural goods from China have decreased by 40%, mainly as a result of smaller supplies of inedible fats and rice,” the agriculture minister also said.

Dr. Georgi Tahov pointed out that the traditionally good cooperation between Bulgaria and China in the field of agriculture and food is developing very actively and is constantly expanding. According to him, this is happening on the principles of equal partnership between the two countries.

“In recent years, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, together with the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC), have been working intensively to complete the procedures for fulfilling the requirements for the import into China of a number of Bulgarian agricultural and food products . At the moment, we have started 38 of them proceduresand 11 of them have already been completed with the signing of the relevant protocols and bilateral approval of the relevant certificates”, he added.

During the meeting, Minister Takhov expressed hope that the procedures for the export of Bulgarian wheat and fresh fruit will be approved by China as a priority. On these, the competent authority of China is expected to carry out a risk analysis.

For his part, Du Jiahao said that the positive values ​​that China and Bulgaria report in the exchange of agricultural goods show the trust between the two countries, and China will continue to encourage the expansion of investments in Bulgaria.

The meeting was also attended by: the Deputy Ministers of Agriculture and Food, Yanislav Yanchev and Dr. Lozana Vasileva, the Deputy Chairman of the Commission for Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the National People’s Republic of China, Wang Gan, and also the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic Bulgaria Dai Qinli.
